On December 29, 2022, the South African government enacted the General Laws (Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Terrorism Financing) Amendment Act 22 of 2022, which included changes to the Companies Act 71 of 2008. Effective April 1, 2023, these amendments mandate that companies maintain an updated Beneficial Owners register with the CIPC as part of their compliance obligations. Additionally, trusts must register their beneficial ownership information with the Master of the High Court.
